2016 Yamaha FJR 1300. More Than a Facelift

2016 Yamaha FJR 1300. More than a facelift 1

Yamaha 1300 tries to keep the pace with the rivals in touring world and upgrades an already classic name – FJR 1300.

The new FJR 1300 gets more than a facelift and comes with a new six speed gearbox. In terms of design, it has a more dynamic look while the comfort is ensured by features as the electric adjustable windscreen.

The most important change is the new gearbox. Besides a new slippery clutch which makes the shifts smoother to do, it has different gear ratios. The first two gears are taller, while 4th and 5th are shorter. The 6th should suit every kilometer of endless highways.

The engine is the same 1,298 cc inline four, which develops 142 horsepower @ 8,000 rpm and a 138 NM torque @7,200 rpm.

As for the electronics, the new FJR 1300 has traction control, driving modes, cruise control and electronically adjustable suspension for the AS top version.

Dynamic design and LED lights

The new Yamaha tourer has LED cornering lights – for the first time on a Yamaha. The system is similar to the one already seen on models as KTM Super Adventure and Super Duke GT. The LED technology is also present on the dual headlight and taillights, which both have a new design.

The dashboard is also different, while the electric adjustable windscreen was reshaped for better aerodynamics and wind protection. Another reshaped element is the front cowling.

Among the comfort options we can spot the adjustable seat and handlebars, the heated grips and the standard hard side cases on AE and AS versions.

The cruise control can be set from third gear on, between 50 km/h and 180 km/h. This is a “safety feature”, Yamaha says.

The fuel tank has a 25 liter volume, while the total weight is 289 kg. Yamaha FJR 1300 is still a heavy bike.

The price is to be announced and the bike will arrive at dealerships starting spring 2016.
