Aprilia wants to change the engine configuration

New engine configuration, electronics and aerodynamics are coming for the 2020 Aprilia RS-GP. It looks like Aprilia plans to heavily improve the 2020 MotoGP bike. Here are the changes.

Aprilia Racing Team is preparing for the Sepang test next month. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport the biggest change on the 2020 Aprilia RS-GP bike is the engine configuration.

The engine is going to be a new 90 degree V4 powerplant. Aprilia used since 2016 a 75° configuration and for the 2020 MotoGP bike, it looks like the engine architecture will be similar to Honda and Ducati.

Using the new angle of the four cylinders, Aprilia wants to improve top speed and engine braking. The new engine is expected to deliver a 10% increase in horsepower, from 255 hp to 280 hp. The improvements will also help Aprilia with braking, a matter they had issues with in the last MotoGP seasons.

The changes on the 2020 Aprilia RS-GP bike do not stop here. It seems that the team is in collaboration with technicians from Formula 1 to help improve the bike’s electronics and aerodynamics. And as a result, increase the traction on the motorcycle.

For the moment, we have to wait and see how fast the 2020 Aprilia RS-GP bike is at the MotoGP Sepang test next month. And of course, who will ride the bikes if Andrea Iannone’s provisional suspension by FIM is not lifted.
