Aprilia Tuono 660 Gets Closer to Production

Aprilia Tuono 660 Gets Closer to Production 1

Aprilia showcased last year at EICMA the RS 660 and Tuono 660 concept bikes. We know that the RS version is heading to production and that it will have an A2 compliant version, but now more news are leaked regarding the naked Tuono 660 according to Motorrad Online. The power seems to be downgraded to 95 hp instead of 100 hp which is the power figure of the RS 660. Also, looking at the patents the naked motorcycle is very similar to the concept bike.

As far as the engine goes, the Aprilia Tuono 660 features a twin-cylinder engine which is actually the RSV4 1100 unit cut in half. Power output is believed to be around 95 hp while the engine will be Euro5 compliant. Also, there will be an A2 license version making 48 hp.

The bodywork features a bellypan which hides the exhaust system and a pair of ‘disguised’ winglets near the front which hug the extra air outlet vent. Other design features include twin LED headlights, small-sized front upper fairings, and a short tail unit.

The Aprilia Tuono 660 will most likely feature Brembo brakes fitted with a rectangular reservoir rather than cylindrical. Completing the packare are two 320 mm discs and radial-mounted calipers. Also, there’s a TFT dash while there’s no news on the suspension. So, there’s possible that the bike will not feature an Ohlins setup in order to keep the naked motorcycle’s price tag down. The electronics package should include cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control, and riding modes.

Compared to the RS 660, the riding position will be more comfortable on the Tuono 660 as the naked motorcycle features a wider handlebar. Moreover, it looks like the Aprilia Tuono 660 will be very slim with a weight of just 169 kg thanks to the frame and the swing-arm which are made of aluminum, and the engine design which stands as a stressed member.

The motorcycle could hit dealerships next year in summer, a couple of months after the RS 660 version is available, but until then Aprilia will have to make a couple of tweaks to the naked motorcycle to make it production-ready. As far as the patent shows, they are minimal due to the fact that the motorcycle looks partially similar to the concept bike. According to more rumours, it looks like Aprilia will launch a third model based on the new 660cc engine which will bear the name Tuareg and focused on the adventure motorcycle segment of the market.

We have to say that the Aprilia Tuono 660 will have a strong competition as it will go head-to-head with Triumph Street Triple or Honda CB650R and bigger bikes like the BMW F900R, Kawasaki Z900, KTM 790 Duke and the upcoming Ducati Monster.
