Custom Kawasaki GPZ 1100 Inspired by Top Gun

Custom Kawasaki GPZ 1100 Inspired by Top Gun 1

Federal Moto built a cafe racer sharing a Honda fuel tank and a Suzuki fork

This bike looks worthy to feature in the movie and be ridden by Maverick even though it’s not a GPZ 900 R like in the 1980s Top Gun motion picture. The base model is a Kawasaki GPZ 1100 from ‘84 delivering 120 hp, 73 Nm of torque and a top speed of 217 kph.

We all remember how Tom Cruise was blasting through the streets on a GPZ 900 R in the 1986 Top Gun movie. This time around, a customer, most likely a Top Gun fan, commissioned Federal Moto to build a motorcycle inspired by the fighter jet motion picture. So, Michael Muller, David Pecaro and Desmond DiGiovanni from Federal Moto started to strip the GPZ 1100 to make it more aerodynamic.

Even if it wears the Kawasaki badge, not all the parts are from the Hamamatsu brand. The fuel tank was borrowed from a modern Honda CB 1100 and was fitted with a specially made fuel cap. The rest of the bodywork was made using computer modelling and 3D printing including the rear section, side covers and headlight housing. The rear subframe and the brackets were manufactured by hand as well as the steel seat which hides the electronics. Desmond DiGiovanni designed the rear wheel cover and the LED headlight with integrated indicators. To protect the bike against corrosion, Federal Moto used Cerakote coating system for the covers which are made of polished aluminium.

Moreover, the front end features a Suzuki GSX 1300 R fork connected via a stem and an upper fork bridge from Cognito Moto. The latter also provided Federal Moto with other parts such as custom hubs to attach the 18-inch front rim. The custom made black leather and suede seat was provided by Relicate.

The engine was upgraded and features a frame with four Mikuni carburettors from a 1984 KZ 1000 and suction funnels made of stainless steel with covers on the top, which come from the 3D printer. The engine delivers 120 hp, 73 Nm of torque and helps the Kawasaki GPZ 1100 reach a top speed of 217 kph.

All that performance needs a good braking system, thus Federal Moto upgraded the brakes which now feature Tokico four-piston brake callipers on the front.

We have to say this Kawasaki GPZ 1100 looks awesome and we wonder what is the price tag for such a conversion, but unfortunately, there are no details on that matter.
