Dakar 2020, Day Five: Sunderland out of the Dakar 1

This day takes the riders to Ha'il with a special stage of 353 km. Nothing is easy at the 2020 Dakar Rally and today Sunderland crashed and was forced to retire. Big blow for the KTM Factory Team.

The course on the fifth day of the Dakar is full of big rocks, very large sandy hills and descents with desert grass paths. Today was a hard day for Sunderland. The KTM rider was riding hard to catch up on the lost time from the previous day of the rally. He received a five-minute penalty for exceeding the speed limit in a speed limit zone where the riders were allowed to ride only with 30 km/h. Thus, the victory on stage four was handed to Honda’s rider Jose Cornejo while Sunderland dropped to eight place.

On day fifth of the 2020 Dakar, Sunderland completed 187 km when he had a hard crash that forced him to retire from the competition. The rider injured his back and left shoulder. We hope he has a good and fast recovery.
