A daring new look for the sake of aerodynamics
This weekend Ducati revealed it’s latest front fairing design in Qatar. With the winglets banned and Yamaha and Suzuki testing various fairing options, Ducati slams the door with the mean looking hammerhead shark design.
The red team shocked everybody at Losail official testing when Ducati rider Andreea Dovizioso went on track with a radical looking “aero-faring”. He is pleased with the changes and says: "our engineers have done a great job because it wasn’t easy to create a certain aerodynamic downforce without using the winglets “. The Italian rider managed to get the second time after Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales.
The fairing shocks from the first glimpse, and it can’t be compared to any other bike but giving you instead the idea of a Star Wars battle ship. Seems just a daring concept but the team manager Gigi Dall’Igna is confident that the hammerhead fairing will do a great job. The idea behind the aerodynamics improvements is to reduce drag and to keep the front wheel on the track.
Borgo Panigale engineers might of borrowed the idea from the front bumper of the Ferrari Enzo supercar. Who knows maybe in a couple of years the new Panigale will wear the same fairings as it’s bigger sister.
