Long Way Up: McGregor & Boorman to Ride Harley-Davidson LiveWire

Long Way Up: McGregor & Boorman to ride Harley-Davidson LiveWire 1

Rumor | Ewan McGregor & Charlie Boorman will ride the Long Way Up on Harley-Davidson electric motorcycles

It’s not the R1250GSA, nor the Triumph Tiger, not even Moto Guzzi V85TT although Ewan McGregor is a brand ambassador for this bike. It seems that the Long Way Up, a ride through the Americas will feature two electric roadsters – Harley-Davidson Livewire, a motorcycle that is soon to be launched in the USA and some European markets.

UPDATE: Ewan McGregor was photographed while riding his Harley-Davidson LiveWire in Patagonia. Here's the news

It’s nothing official right now, but the pieces of the puzzle seem to match the theory. First, there’s an Instagram photo featuring Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman arriving in Argentina. McGregor is wearing a Belstaff jacket (Belstaff also appeared in the Long Way Down) and a Harley-Davidson cap. Boorman is holding an Arai helmet in its left hand (they also used Arai Helmets in Long Way Round and Long Way Down). So, it’s pretty clear that the guys arrived in Argentina for their next trip – the Long Way Up. Regarding the route, there are some reports saying that the trip will end in Los Angeles and not in Alaska.

Meanwhile, the paparazzi in Ushuaia spotted an interesting shipping – two electric pick-ups and four Harley-Davidson Livewire electric bikes were unloaded in Tierra del Fuego. And that’s not all – there are also two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4Matic and a Ford F350. The photos were published by autoblog.com.ar in Argentina. The convoy:

  • Two Harley-Davidson Livewire Motorcyles equipped for a trans-continental trip
  • Another two back-up bikes
  • Two Rivian R1T – 100% electric pick-ups – 105-180 kWh batteries which allow to reach up to 754 horsepower and 1,120 NM of torque in their top spec versions. The range sits somewhere between 390 and 660 km.
  • Two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4Matic
  • A 6.2 litre V8 Ford F350. The guys at autoblog are guessing that these should be the bikes responsible for the support equipment and spare parts.

It might be just a coincidence, but it seems more likely that those Harley-Davidson LiveWire motorcycles are the ones McGregor and Boorman will ride across the Americas for the upcoming Long Way Round. The Harley-Davidson cap, the special shipping in Ushuaia, they all make sense. The only thing that seems to be unsuitable is the Arai helmet – judging by the shape, it looks like the Tour X4 – it doesn’t sound like the best choice for a Harley-Davidson Livewire. We’ll keep you posted.
