Larger fuel tank, better weather protection, but increased weight. Is this the F850GS you’ve been waiting for?
As expected, BMW is to unveil the Adventure version of the F850GS middleweight enduro-tourer. It will be more comfortable for touring and come with a larger fuel tank – probably 20 liters, that will increase the range to more than 400 km.
The guys at Cycle World just got their hands on BMW’s design patent for the F850GS Adventure. We can easily notice the wider beak, similar to the one on the big R1200GS Adventure, a wider cowl and taller, adjustable screen. This means a better weather protection, similar to the one offered by the Africa Twin Adventure Sports – BMW F850 GS’ main rival in the segment.
The steel luggage rack at the back suggests that the new F850GS Adventure will feature aluminium panniers (the F850 comes with plastic Vario cases) and there’s a crash-bar that protects the engine.
The new F850GS Adventure might also feature a longer-travel suspension, but we have no details. What we know is that it will come with an increased wet weight – 538lb – 244 kg – just the same as the current R1200GS. However, BMW is also planning to come up with a new big GS – the R1250.
The engine is the same unit we can find on the F850GS – an inline-twin powerplant that develops 95 horsepower.
The new F850GS Adventure will probably be unveiled this autumn – at Intermot Koln or EICMA Milan. We’ll be there and come up with all the details.
