The big KTM single is back
The Austrian brand interrupted production of the KTM 690 R and the 690 SMC R in 2017. Although Husqvarna 701 Enduro and 701 Supermoto share the same engine, you might think they were having a conflict of interests. But the actual reason might be that the KTM 690 engine was not able to pass Euro 4 regulations, otherwise, why keep it out from Europe market?
The 690 KTM looks pretty much like the 701 Husqvarna. The gas tank is moved towards to back of the bike and, the big muffler serves as a catalytic converter. The engine might look similar but, we know that KTM put some work in it for the 690 Duke, so the power figures might get as high as 73 hp. The combination between an increased bore and reduced stroke is a recipe for a high rev-ing ready to race lightweight machine. All of this in Euro 4 compliant configuration.
The front cowling design is changed. The front area is now slimmer and, the saddle seems a bit more roomy. The 690 was well known for giving your bottom a hard time. The front panels are smaller allowing you to move towards the front for increased control. Besides the headlight, all the lights on both models have been converted to LED.
We expect the new 690 Enduro and Supermoto to be presented at EICMA this fall together with the 790 Adventure. The bikes will be available most probable starting with 2019.
