Shoei follows the increasing bobber trend and reveals the Ex-Zero helmet that harks back to the old days

Shoei reveals Ex-Zero, a full-face helmet inspired from the days of yore that brings together tech used in top-drawer motocross lids and styling to suit the increasing demands of the retro and bobber community.

The brand is a synonym for high-tech motorcycle helmets and Shoei has been spearheading the research in this field for years, trying to come up with the most efficient innovations in protection and comfort. However, it looks like the also found a way to integrate their massive helmet-making knowledge with fashionable styling, and the result is the Ex-Zero.

Looking beyond the classic ’70s-‘80s lines, Ex-Zero boasts many of Shoei’s proprietary, advanced technologies. The shell is made of their AIM material (Advanced Integrated Matrix) that uses organic, composite and high-tech fibers in multiple layers, creating a shield that’s lightweight and has excellent energy dissipation properties.

Shells come in three different external sizes, to keep overall dimensions and weight consistent with the actual heads of the customers. These helmets are available in sizes XS through XXL, and come with a dual-density EPS foam layer, as well. Ex-Zero has a double-D ring chin strap securing system, backed by the E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick Release System) for easy removal in case of a crash. The cheek pads and the center pad are removable and washable, for comfort and health.

Adding to the comfort side, the Shoei Ex-Zero features a pull-down CJ-3 internal visor that can be ordered in clear, tinted or yellow colors, and has three adjustable positions. Ex-Zero is available in six base colors, red, yellow, white, black, matte black, and grey, plus a retro-striped version.

Being a Shoei, you’ll pay a tad more than what you’d normally fork out on a casual helmet, but it looks like there’s hardly a price for the safety of your head. We spotted it for around 410 Euro in base color and 470 Euro in retro stripe trim, already available for pre-order.
