In a Nutshell
Yamaha Tracer 700 got a new look and some updates for 2020. The engine is now Euro 5, there are an R1-inspired fairing and headlight, and there are also some improvements in the comfort and ride department: updated suspension, new seat, new dash.
On the electronics side is quite simple. There’s only the mandatory ABS available for the Yamaha Tracer 700, which is a bit weird for 2020, especially having in mind that Yamaha offers a traction control even for its 300 cc scooters. However, the MT-07 derived engine is not that scary, so it’s still a great bike for beginners.
This means that the aggressive style is the only feature Yamaha Tracer 700 borrowed from the R1. Besides that, it’s not intimidating, it’s light, nimble, and easy to ride, no matter the riding skills.
Overall, the new Yamaha Tracer 700 is a good all-rounder and a great bike for beginners.
What We Liked
The Yamaha Tracer 700 is a perfect city bike. The engine is not heating-up, the commanding riding position is allowing you to observe the traffic, and the handlebar, although wider than before, fits perfectly between the cars’ mirrors.
The dash looks better than before. It’s still an LCD unit, but it’s easier to read it in direct sunlight.
The LED headlight is offering enough amount of light to be able to ride the Tracer 700 during the night. If you need more, you can fit the auxiliary lights.
It’s light and easy to ride. The engine still rocks.
What We Disliked
The braking system is a bit on the weak side. You have to squeeze it quite hard in some situations to be able to stop.
The standard seat, although new, is still uncomfortable. After 200 km you’ll start feeling tired due to the seat, wind, and riding position. However, Yamaha is offering a comfort seat option that might improve some things
The weather protection is a bit on the low side of the segment. It’s better than an MT-07, but besides the knees, which are protected by the fairings, you can feel the wind. The windshield, although adjustable, is not good enough and gives buffeting even if you’re not a tall rider.
