BMW R 1200 GS 2017 Facelift. What’s new 1

New look, updated electronics, gearbox improvements and a Rallye version

BMW unveiled a new version of its R 1200 GS flagship enduro-tourer. While not essential changes, there are some welcomed refinements featured on the new version.

R 1200 GS  Adventure-inspired look

The general design lines are the same, but the new model comes with optimized ergonomics in the knee area and rounder shapes. The front mud-guard and the slipstream deflectors are different. The trim of the air intake and side fuel tank trip panels have been redesigned and are inspired by the bigger R1200GS Adventure. According to the new shapes, the GS should also provide a better wind protection in the shoulder area.

Rallye and Exclusive Trims

The Rallye version is off-road focused and it’s got a BMW Motorsport-inspired color theme – the most beautiful colors ever on a GS motorcycle. Besides the colors, the R 1200 GS Rallye comes with a different seat, smaller windshield, enduro foot-pegs, spoked wheels and, most important, a revised sport suspension with an increased spring rate.

The Exclusive version features a street-touring focused look, with a high windscreen, double seat, cast wheels and black-painted cylinders.

Revised gearbox

Although it meets the Euro 4 regulations, the engine comes with the same power output: 125 horsepower and 125 NM. On the other hand, there are some gearbox updates that should fix the problems reported by now: the addition of a ruder damper on the transmission output shaft and a revision of the selector drum actuator and transmission shafts.

Electronics update

Just as before, the standard version features two riding modes – Rain & Road. You can choose the optional Riding Pro Modes: Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, Enduro, Enduro Pro. The Dynamic Traction Control – DTC – is banking angle sensitive.

The new R1200GS also features an electronic hill start control system.
