Ducati’s iconic motorcycle turns 25 and Borgo Panigale prepared an anniversary limited edition that looks like a million bucks and is equipped with Italy’s best bike technologies
Believe it or not, Ducati’s most iconic motorcycle is turning 25 this year and obviously, Borgo Panigale built a special kind of Monster. The anniversary machine is the Monster 1200, the biggest of the family, and it received a ton of goodies, from the luxurious paint job to high-performance top-drawer bits and parts.
The first thing that will make heads turn is, obviously, the color scheme. The Monster 1200 was adorned with the Italian flag colors. The graphic choice reminds us of the 2008 Monster S4RS Testastretta Tricolore, and is elegantly complemented by a special red stitching and the embroidered label on the seat. Tricolore accents can be met all over the place, with red stripes on the fly screen, green anodized fork adjusters, and white trim from the cowl to the passenger seat cover.
The standard equipment for the Monster 1200 25 Anniversario is an amazing combination of what the motorcycle industry can offer at its best. The forged alloy, W-spoked rims come from Marchesini, and they are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires. Ohlins supplied the beefy 48mm adjustable forks and the progressive linkage rear suspension.
Reining in Monster’s power is easy and confidence-inspiring, thanks to the monoblock Brembo 4-piston M50 calipers with a radial pump in the front, and a 2-pot Brembo caliper in the rear. The front brake has dual 330mm discs, while the rear uses a 245mm one. Bosch’s cornering ABS is standard, too.
Ducati simply added pretty much all their top technologies to this spectacular Monster. The features list also includes riding and power modes, the Ducati Safety Pack (Bosch Cornering ABS + Ducati Traction Control DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), and even an Ohlins steering damper and a full quick-shifter (up and down).
The full-color TFT display is joined by LED parking and tail lights, LED DRLs and side indicators, and a bevy of billet parts, such as articulated levers, mirrors, frame plugs, bar-ends, and aluminium plate support. Carbon fiber could not be skipped from a special-edition Ducati build, either. The Monster 1200 25 Anniversario comes standard with a carbon ignition switch frame, a carbon heat shield for the exhaust manifold and carbon fiber mudguards.
The machine tips the scales at 184 kg (406 lb) dry, which is some 3 kg (6.6 lb) less than the stock Monster 1200. The 1,198cc L-twin engine produces 147 HP @ 9,250 rpm and a peak torque of 124 Nm at 7,750 revs, indicating that Ducati used the Monster 1200 S mill for the anniversary motorcycle.
There is no word on the price tag of the Monster 1200 25 Anniversario, but since Ducati will make only 500 such bikes, we’d advise you to schedule a meeting with your Borgo Panigale dealer as soon as possible. Progressive, engraved number plates attached to the frame will testify the rare, exclusive nature of your Monster, IF you can get one.
