These two scooters might start a revolution
While all eyes were set on the new Gold Wing, nobody cared about Honda’s other news at the Tokyo Motor Show: two scooters – PCX Electric and PCX Hybrid. But if taking a closer look at the new versions of the PCX urban scooter, you’ll see that it’s a big step in the motorcycle industry.
The PCX Electric is an electric scooter equipped with a motor developed independently by Honda as well as the Honda Mobile Power Pack, a detachable mobile battery pack. And this “detachable mobile battery pack” is the thing. You can buy an additional set to leave it charging back at home while you’re commuting. Or you can take it with you as a reserve.

Then it’s Honda’s newly-developed original hybrid system. It’s designed for motorcycles and it “employs a high-output battery and ACG starter to assist the engine and enables PCX Hybrid to realize a “torqueful” riding performance”. Imagine this hybrid technology on the new Gold Wing or Fireblade. Or Africa Twin. Increased performance and range. Does it sound good? It does, for us.
Both models will go on sale in 2018 in the Asia region including Japan. For now, at least.
