First Photos | Fairings, fuel tank, ergonomics. KTM wants to build a more comfortable 1290 Super Adventure
Let’s put it straight: BMW R1250GS is the comfortable and versatile one, while the KTM is the wild guy. And the sales charts suggest that the adventure-touring customers are more interested in comfort than in having 160 hp figures. But what if KTM would be as comfortable as a R1250GS? We think that the guys at KTM are working on it right now. And it's not just about comfort.
These are the first spy photos of the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure – which could be unveiled as a 2020 model. It’s all black, but we can easily spot some visual differences – first of all, the fairing is redesigned – now it’s wider and seem to offer a better weather protection. But it’s not just that – now the plastics are covering the V-Twin engine on the sides, while the front cylinder seems to get some fresh air straight from the front – now the radiator is split in two equal parts, just as the one on the BMW R1200GS.
Also, very important – take a look at the fuel tank. It looks similar to the one on the 790 Adventure – elongated to the base. This should add up for a lower centre of gravity, which means that the next 1290 Super Adventure could be more nimble than the previous model and would inspire more confidence when riding both on road and off road.
The seats also seem to be different on this test bike.
KTM was testing the new 1290 Super Adventure alongside a R1200GS so we can get a glimpse at the bot bikes. For example, this test mule seems to come with a higher ground clearance compared to the GS, and also a higher seat. The bike in the photos seems pretty close to production and the online media suggests that it will be unveiled as a 2020 model – that means we could see it at EICMA in November.
