Meet a different bread of superbike
Vyrus is a small Italian manufacturer which makes outrageous superbikes using Ducati engines and unconventional tech. Their latest model is named Alyen and looks like a motorcycle that comes from another planet. It features a Ducati 1,285cc V-twin delivering 205 hp, hub-centre steering and carbon fibre bodywork.
The Italian engineers took a 1,285cc Ducati Superquadro v-twin engine and they’ve fit it to their hub-centre steering system and Vyrus Magnesium double omega frame design. The engine comes from the 2014 Ducati 1199 Panigale and instead of making 195 hp, the power unit fitted on the Alyen model produces 205 hp @ 10,500 rpm.
The bike doesn’t have a conventional fork. It uses a different suspension configuration namely a Hydraulic Wired Steering System or in other words, hub-centre steering. It was designed by Vyrus Project Leader, Ascanio Rodorigo, at first for the Bimota Tesi 2D back in 2004. The front end uses a swing arm and the hub-centre steering system that separates the steering and suspension functions. It helps to separate braking forces from suspension movements making the bike more agile through corners and helping with the weight shift under braking.
The bodywork is different from what we see on standard superbikes. The headlight design is minimalistic, the bike features composite handguards with integrated turn signals. The exhaust system is an evolution of the one fitted on the Vyrus 982 M2. The bodywork is made from carbon fibre including the wheels, which are the new forged “Bullet” carbon units from Rotobox. The frame is made from magnesium. The braking system features the Brembo GP4 series while the suspension is equipped front and rear with Vyrus Push Rod Twin Pivot.
There are no details regarding the weight, price tag and number of units Vyrus plans to build. Probably, this Alyen model from the Italians is a limited edition.
