The bike delivers 86 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm and revs to 14,500 rpm in fifth gear
Ducati made an online presentation of all the details behind the development of the Streetfighter V4 model. The news comes from Ducati Designer Jeremy Faraud and official test rider Alessandro Valia.
Ducati couldn’t make a press launch for the bike due to the Coronavirus outbreak thus, an online presentation was needed to fully acknowledge the Streetfighter V4.
The concept & aerodynamics
Ducati says that the concept of building this bike started from the idea to create a motorcycle for track and open road use.
“The Ducati Streetfighter V4 has a double soul bike – very high performance on the track, but very usable on the open road with a smooth engine delivery at low-mid revs,” said Giulio Malagoli, Product Marketing Director.
The design of the bike is a balance between aggression and elegance. The upper lines for the headlight, fuel tank and tail resemble a superbike, but the frame and engine design was made to showcase a naked bike with technical features like the F1-inspired air extractors. So, it’s a mixture of both worlds.
Moreover, the Streetfighter V4 was fitted with biplane wings for stability under braking, high speed and cornering. They generate 27 kg of downforce at 270 kph. Valia said that this configuration improves the bike’s handling on the road and especially urban use. Furthermore, the winglets provide 2 kg of downforce starting from 50 kph and the bike has a lower tendency to wheelie.
It’s the second bike in the Ducati model range to feature such aerodynamics. The first model with such a package was the Panigale V4 R which is equipped with monoplane winglets.
The wheelbase and swingarm were increased by 15 mm compared to the Panigale V4 superbike model. The steering pin was increased by 2 mm. The wheelbase stands at 1488 mm which improves the handling capabilities.
The engine & frame
The Streetfighter V4 offers 123 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm of which 70% is delivered at 4,000 rpm and 90% at 9,000 rpm. As a track-focused super naked, power output stands at 208 hp and the bike can rev to 14,500 rpm in fifth gear and at 15,000 rpm the rider can upshift to sixth gear. The power can reach 220 hp if the bike is equipped with the full Akrapovic exhaust system.
Moreover, the bike has a counter-rotating crankshaft which influences the dynamics of the Streetfighter V4. In other words, the engine rotates in the opposite direction of the wheels reducing the gyroscopic effect created by the wheels, making the bike more agile through corners and reduces the bike’s tendency to wheelie.
The engine is a structural element of the chassis. The front frame allows optimizing the bending and torsional stiffness. This technical solution allows the frame movements to help bike handling when the suspension travel has reached its limit. Typically when the bike has a high lean angle through corners.
The riding position was designed to offer comfort and more space for the passenger seat. So, the thickness of the seat was increased and brought to 60 mm.
The Ducati Streetfighter V4 has maintenance interval every 24,000 km (15,000 miles) for valve play adjustment (Desmo Service). Services are performed every 12,000 km or 12 months.
